History

The roots of Allegheny Valley Transfer Company delve deep into a family legacy of dedication and hard work. In the bustling year of 1925, Mary Jessup's industrious grandparents laid the cornerstone of what would become a renowned moving enterprise. With all eleven children contributing their sweat and toil, the family business thrived, ingraining the values of teamwork and perseverance into its very foundation.

Fast forward to the 1960s, where tragedy struck with the untimely passing of Mary's uncle, Bill. This pivotal moment thrust Howard, amidst his pursuit of a Ph.D. in Chemistry, into the forefront of the family enterprise alongside his father, Jacob. Through their joint efforts, the business not only endured but flourished, evolving with the times.

Meanwhile, after graduating from Carnegie Mellon, Mary embarked on her own journey, crisscrossing the nation in pursuit of professional growth. Climbing the ranks to become a District Manager, her experiences honed her skills and broadened her perspective. However, destiny beckoned her back to her roots in Pittsburgh, where her father sought her assistance in steering the family business into a new era.

With Jacob's passing in 1995, the reins of leadership fell firmly into the hands of Howard and Mary. Determined to uphold their family's legacy, they acquired the business from their siblings, forging ahead despite the challenges posed by economic downturns.

Tragedy struck again when Howard passed away, thirteen years later, leaving Mary to navigate the company's future alone. Yet, buoyed by her brother's teachings and their shared vision, she rose to the occasion, infusing the business with her unwavering commitment to excellence.

Mary's philosophy echoes through the corridors of Allegheny Valley Transfer Company, where a culture of continuous learning and innovation thrives.
